This shows revenue and operating profit by segment for the 3-month and 9-month period.
For the 9-month period, revenue in the Healthcare Business grew by 2% due to the effects of the acquisition during the previous year of Viztek and an acceleration in the shift toward sales of digital products. In the Industrial Business, revenue fell by 20% due to declines in sales for mainstay products, including TAC film, and due to the postponement of a major order for measuring instruments.
Due to FOREX effects, operating profit in both the Business Technologies Business and the Healthcare Business fell below previous-year levels, but excluding FOREX effects, it posted an increase. For the 3-month period, the impact of the stronger yen in reducing revenue and profits was similar to that in the 9-month period, but Healthcare Business revenue on a yen-denominated basis was flat over the previous year, and operating profit rose significantly due to patent-related income posted in the Industrial Business.
