Next are the results by segment. Group overall net sales grew 6% year on year for the 1H and 8% year on year for the 2Q. An especially strong contribution to sales was made by the commercial/industrial print field in the Business Technologies Business, sales of which grew by over 20%. Sales in the Business Technologies Business for the 2Q grew by 11% year on year due in part to the strong performance of the commercial/industrial print field.
Meanwhile, in the Healthcare Business, while sales increased 3% year on year for the 2Q, the increase was 1% year on year for the 1H, reflecting the fact that sales struggled slightly compared to plans.
In the industrial optical systems field, performance was mostly positive other than the decrease in earnings caused by withdrawal from the glass substrates for HDDs business.
In the performance materials field, sales decreased by 2% year on year for the 2Q. Although sales volume increased, sales declined slightly. As a result, an increase in sales of 5% year on year was recorded for the 1H.
In terms of operating income by segment, the Business Technologies Business made a positive contribution to profits as a result of the strong performance of the commercial/industrial print field. Operating income for this segment grew 12% year on year to ¥30.3 billion for the 1H.
Meanwhile, in the Healthcare Business, operating income decreased ¥0.9 billion year on year for the 1H and ¥0.8 billion year on year for the 2Q. In the Industrial Business, operating income increased 21% year on year to ¥12.2 billion for the 1H, due in part to positive developments such as the withdrawal from the glass substrates for HDDs business. However, the scale of the increase was slightly smaller for the 2Q.
