Performance materials posted revenue of ¥9.6 billion. This was a decrease of 18% year on year.
New VA-TAC with heightened water resistance for large panels found increased application in large LCD televisions 50 inches and larger in size. ZeroTAC for IPS panel use also held strong, and for small to medium-sized panels, ultra-thin film of 20-micron thickness showed growth. Sales were concentrated in these and other such value-added products.
Meanwhile, there was also growing competition over the emergence of new materials as replacements for protective TAC. Sales of protective TAC film decreased. Under these circumstances, the results were severe for the fourth quarter.
