Industrial Business - Overview

Sales and profitability were both down in the Industrial Business overall. This was caused in part by a decrease of TAC film sales in volume and value. Aside from TAC film, the decline in net sales in particular can be explained by lower sales of glass substrates for HDDs and lenses for mobile phones, which resulted from structural reform measures. On the other hand, sales were strong in other areas, including sensing devices (a business that we recently acquired) and digital SLR interchangeable lenses. Though not shown here, pickup lenses for Blu-ray Discs for game applications did well. Therefore, optical systems other than TAC film increased sales.
