As part of this drive to develop OLED lighting over the mid-term, today we entered into a strategic alliance agreement with Pioneer Corporation. The basic objective is to work on OLED lighting together, but we will place the primary focus on automotive lighting and, rather than pursuing this as two separate companies, we will combine the OLED-related management resources of each company. In particular, the alliance aims to accelerate the commercialization of the automotive lighting operation by means of vehicle tail lamps, for which market demand is expected to grow in 2019 and 2020. To this alliance, Konica Minolta brings roll-to-roll manufacturing technology for flexible OLED, as well as mass production facilities totaling more than 50,000 m² at the Kofu plant. Pioneer brings a track record in OLED mass production and related technology, in addition to which it has extensive relationships with the automotive industry, and quality management expertise for automotive parts and materials based on standards such as TS 16949 and VDA. Leveraging the know-how supplied by Pioneer and Konica Minolta’s own capabilities, the two companies plan to concentrate their strengths.
